coping with loss father's day 2022 grief on father's day Aug 29, 2022

Welcome to Weekly Whisper #69.

It’s Father's Day on Sunday 4th September. I lost my Father at 10 years old and my Step-Father on my 30th birthday. I became a Father at 32.

I’ve always found song lyrics resonate with me in unique ways. These songs have caused me to smile, to cry, to care and to continually, albeit imperfectly, be the best role model I can be – not only as a father but as a human.

This whisper is for listening.

Here’s to everyone who has a father, has lost a father, is a father, would like to be a father, is a step-father and every other type of father there is.

Quote of the week

Something I wrote about my own Dad amind trying to cope with the loss.

Dad, I need some advice
Is it a Ford or a Rover I can’t tell
The other kids, they know very well
Which classes to take?
Should I bake a cake?
Dad, I need some advice

When to come home 11 or 10?
It’s my choice since I don’t know when
Is she good enough?
Girlfriends and all that stuff
Dad, I need some advice

Mum’s at the edge and she took the step
How do I bring her back help, help, help
Never a day goes by without a tear in my eye
Dad, I need some advice

The years have passed slow or it seems so
Questions unanswered, shadowed sunbeams
Just to talk even to silently walk
Dad…

Sometimes I feel your guiding hand
Making me listen to a different band
Are you sure? Intentions are pure
Dad, I need some advice

Instead of asking I’m now being asked
Time for my soul to be unmasked
She’s looking at you through me thinking what will I be?
Asking “Daddy, I need some advice

It’s time to go, time to depart
Except, that is, for my burning heart
Don’t mind if I do sit down with you
Dad, I‘ll heed your advice

Did you miss episode #57 with Kirstin Taylor?

Catch up before next week's new release.

In Episode #57 Pete chats with Kristin Taylor. Kristin Taylor, M.A. is a life and executive coach. She brings over 20 years of counseling and coaching experience and blends elements of neuroscience, nervous system and emotional regulation, mindfulness, and psychology into her approach, relying heavily on teaching self-compassion. Kristin specialises in working with leaders who are experiencing unwelcome levels of stress, anxiety and imposterism.

Pete and Kristin chat about nervous system dysregulation. What’s that I hear you think. The essence of it is that our body stores stress in various forms and when our body is in chronic stress mode – think pandemic and post-pandemic – it can activate stress chemicals that lead to burnout. Kristin offers some practical solutions and some fascinating sidebar references to handling the stress our body takes on and helps with some tips to align our mind and body.

That's all for this week. I hope you enjoyed Weekly Whisper #69.

Feedback is my fuel so if you have any comments please send me an email at [email protected] and let me know your thoughts.

Cheers

Pete
