Welcome to Weekly Whispers #3

What did you pick up and explore from Week #2?

Did you embrace anything and find a place in your life to practice?

Were you more aware of your surroundings and the environment that was affecting your mindset?

Did you choose growth or comfort? I've chosen growth as you'll see below!

Did you wonder where you get your certainty from?

Here's a couple of things I've been struck by this week.

1. I just want my kids to be happy

"I just want my kids to be happy" is often the language I hear (and use myself!) when talking with other parents about their hopes and dreams for their kids. It seems such a nurturing wish for someone else and I've wondered whether it's as relevant a wish for ourselves. I created a short video last year about how we have happiness and success around the wrong way.

Yale psychology professor, Laurie Santos, provides a free course on the science and performance links to happiness. I found it fascinating reading.

Find a shortened version of it here.

Here's a link to her Podcast.

5 quick tips from Laurie Santos.

2. "We have 2 lives. The second one starts the moment we realise we only have one" Confucius

I came across this quote recently and loved it. It really resonated with me about doing all I can, as best I can, to ensure I've started my second life. Sometimes life moments feel like they come out of nowhere, but really they're just around the corner. We just can't see around corners. I'm going to invest as much time as I can in living and breathing the second one.

3. Question of the week: What's the step a future you would want you to take?

This week I've been wrestling with several uncertainties and challenging decisions. I was perceiving the challenge from my current perspective. As I considered the challenge/uncertainty from a future perspective, through the lens of an upgraded and wiser version of myself, the next step became a little clearer. Clear enough that taking the next step was feasible, made sense and I could re-assess after taking it.

So, when you're uncertain which way to go and unsure what's the best path to take, I wonder if you could pause and consider the challenge from a future and wiser-based perspective?

4. Freedom Fridays - My quarterly experiment

I come across so many different tips and tools about growth and development that I thought I'd take it to my next level. I'm normally very private in my achievement orientation. I'm not one for shouting from the rooftops about what I'm going to do. I'm more the one who is quietly driven, sets a plan, commits, and gets on with it. I'm going to disrupt that with an experiment. I've put this one on a podcast to stretch myself even further. Next week I'll update you with what it took and the judgments I had to overcome to produce this first one.
