sleeping puppy be more puppy rest and recover

Welcome to Weekly Whispers #26

What whisper did you hear from #25?

Complete the sentence stem – A better person makes a better…?

Are you confident, bold and scared enough to publicly state not just your goals but your dreams too?

How many times are you willing to fail in order to succeed?

Could you even understand a word of the accents between my podcast guest, Dougie Samuel and I 😊 Ai certainly couldn’t!

What's struck me this week?

1. Be more puppy

A great mate of mine, Aly King-Smith, working out of the UK posted something on LinkedIn that really resonated with me.

She posted this picture of her dog asleep

and the following message:

Our puppy doesn’t perceive himself to be a failure when he rests.

He assumes great things will happen next time he wakes up.

He knows he needs to crash right out for as long as he can, and he never wonders if another puppy is managing to stay awake as he kips..!

He rests. And then he rocks being a puppy.

I am working with a horrifying number of truly exhausted leaders and it can’t carry on. Rest isn’t an extra bonus option.

Please people.

Be. More. Puppy.

Look after the recovery part as much as the delivery.

I’m sure we’ve all fallen into the trap of providing for everyone else and forgetting to fill our own cup. You are too precious and valuable not to invest some time looking after yourself – at least for others. Do everyone a favour, please. Recover.

Recover well if you can. But just take time to recover.

2. Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out – John Wooden

Life can seem incredibly random at times. We’re never sure what hand we’ll be dealt. Our lives, let alone our routines, continue to bleed uncertainty. We never know what’s around the corner. And yet, maybe not perfectly. And certainly not necessarily how we’d expect. If we can face into and work with whatever life happens to throw our way it can work out OK.

3. Quote of the week: "It usually works out if you work in" Pete Clark

How has it worked out for me? Well, not too bad at all. How? With a little bit of luck, some fortunate timing and because when things aren’t going my way I reach inside – I work on the inside – and adjust my way so that the way I’m going finds a way of working out.

4. Question of the week: Is it better to be a warrior in a garden or a gardener in a war?

I’ll leave you to ponder the meaning of that one 😊

5. Freedom Fridays - Moving from I have to, to I choose to

My intention is to openly share a change I’m making within my life. I’m hoping you can take the lessons learnt and apply them to any change you want to make.

This week was predominantly about slowing down and looking up
