I recently posted a pic on the family WhatsApp - just a simple selfie but to me, it captured so much more.
It's one of my happy places. Golf course behind me. Ocean and beach beyond that.
There’s something magical for me about standing between nature and nurture.
The sea offers scale. The course offers calm.
The contrast in colour, depth, scent, and stillness reminds me how small I am in contrast to the scale of the universe.
And how big life can feel when you’re doing something you love.
Sun on my face.
Everything looks better when the sun is shining, doesn’t it?
Not just the landscape, but your outlook.
To my right, the bushland where we scattered a little of my Mum’s ashes.
My kids call her Grandma Ally. She’s now part of this place I pass every time I play.
A gentle nod from the trees. A presence that the breeze whispers without speaking.
To my left, my mates. The ones who make me laugh, challenge me, ground me, lift me.
They know when to call BS and when to just let me be. And even if they don’t, they do it with my interests at heart.
And always, always, family in my heart and soul. They don’t need to be physically there to be with me. Their hopes, dreams, fears and concerns - mine too.
It’s not just a place on a map. It’s a place within me.
So, where’s your happy place?
Can you describe it in a sentence?
Can you visualise it?
Can you feel it in a moment?
How often do you visit - physically, visually or emotionally?
And if it’s been a while, maybe today’s the day to return - even just momentarily in your mind.
If you haven’t found your happy place yet, start noticing what brings you stillness, joy, peace, contentment, coherence.
That’s where you’ll find it.
