Welcome to Weekly Whispers #20

What whisper did you hear from #19?

Did you start on Monday or find another fresh start moment?

Have you changed how you talk to yourself?

Do you keep talking to find peace in your thoughts?

Where do you live – head or body?

Here's what's struck me this week?

1. Hard choices easy life. Easy choices hard life - Jerzy Gregorek

When we do what’s easy and comfortable it can sometimes come back to bite us later. Not always and it’s perfectly reasonable on occasions to make the easy choice. However, when we make the hard choices it can make a huge difference over time.

Persuade yourself first that delaying the psychological gratification of achievement is a good thing. Then take the small steps that the hard choices sometimes rely on. Stick with it and over time (once you’ve forgotten about it, sometimes sooner rather than later!) magic can show up.

What choices – conscious and unconscious – are you making today that will impact the quality of your life tomorrow?

2. The Isolation Journals

One of the hard choices (but relatively easy in practice) that I make on a relatively consistent basis is carving out time and space from my day to journal. I capture my random thoughts – quotes, questions, prompts, unusual takes on common themes - in many places and at completely random times.

The isolation journals were borne out of the isolation that the global pandemic forced upon many and I thought it contained some useful prompts for those interested in capturing some of the meanderings that happen between their ears and within their bones.

3. Quote of the week: "The problem is not to find the answer, it’s to face the answer" Terence McKenna

Whilst I agree with the sentiment I’d alter it a little and change it to ‘face AN answer’.

Often we’ve no certainty about what the possible answer could be until we take a step, lean in, experiment and work out what it might take.

For me, THE answer can be too finite in the ever-changing dynamic world in which we live.

4. Question of the Week: What are you doing in service of your older self?

Imagine you could sit down for drinks or dinner with an older version of yourself. What would you tell them you’re doing now in service of that older version?

Are you doing things deliberately and consciously to make things better…or worse?

Does the prompt make you consider things you could do in service of an older self beyond what you’re currently doing? Or are you doing things in dis-service of an older self?

Dream big but start small and remember the magic of compounding. Read point #3 above again.

5. Freedom Fridays - My weekly experiment with time and focus

My intention is to openly share a change I’m making within my life. I’m hoping you can take the lessons learnt and apply them to any change you want to make.

This week is another interview about a big change a colleague of mine is making – moving out of the family home.
