Welcome to Weekly Whisper #117.

The art of being wise

As our kids were growing up I used to frame my corrective instructions - thinking I was really wise - doh! - with the phrase ’the art of being wise is knowing when to stop’.

An attempt to be a progressive and elegant parent in communicating what I wanted them to stop doing… it worked some of the time! But of course, the unintended consequences they now repeat the framing back at me when I’m not at my best!

And it is an art because there are no absolutes, no definitives, no sacrosanct rules. If science is the right answer then art could be any answer.

So, if it’s an art then the art of being wise is knowing when

To Stop
To Start
To Trust
To Sleep
To Let Go
To Say No
To Say Yes
To Say Sorry
To Say Maybe
To Start Again
To Double Down
To Wait Patiently
To Pause & Breathe
To Push On Through
To Practice Gratitude
To begin something new
To take a calculated chance
To step out of your comfort zone
To decide to leave a relationship quietly

Question of the week:
What sort of artist are you?

You may not be an actual artist but we all paint our own story on the world and those around us – what are you painting?

We all have a unique hue on the world – what’s your hue?

We all have a unique story being told as we speak – what’s your story?

Quote of the week:
The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook - William James

An old maxim attributed to one of the founders of psychology.

Sometimes we have to jump in and solve something or stand for something. Sometimes it’s better letting it pass by.

The ‘sometimes’ that was relevant and right yesterday might not be today and vice versa. And on it goes… in perpetuity.

My take… the art of being wise is knowing what to overlook (when and in whom).

NEW RELEASE
Freedom Fridays Podcast Episode 77 Featuring David Sollars

In this episode, Pete chats to David Sollars who is a return guest also featured in episode #46.

The essence of their first conversation was Dave sharing his reflections on being provoked by something on the outside that caused him to give away his power, authority and choice.

Dave & Pete pick up the conversation nearly 2 years later to explore the journey so far and what, if any, progress has been made.

They take a deeper dive into how Dave has reclaimed his power, authority and choice and the work required to do so.

Working from the inside out Dave shares his journey of self-reflection and compassion and how he held the tension between endings and beginnings. Courageously he also shares what it’s like navigating the messy middle of the ‘neutral zone’ which is anything but neutral.

If you’re in the midst of a personal or professional transformation you don’t want to miss this one.
